Label Decoder
Avoid driving until you know how this affects you
Official label information
Neurontin labeling tells patients not to drive until they have enough experience to assess whether gabapentin impairs driving. It notes that people may not accurately judge their own somnolence or driving competence. Driving studies with gabapentin enacarbil found significant driving impairment.
Plain-language explanation
The label is warning that alertness, vision, balance, or reaction time may be affected before you know your response. Tasks involving vehicles, machinery, heights, or heat can become unsafe.
What this often means for gabapentin products
Feeling awake is not a reliable roadside test. Unsteadiness (ataxia) and dizziness are also labeled effects. Employers’ safety rules still apply. Discuss night-shift work and machinery jobs with the prescriber rather than experimenting on the highway.
Ask your pharmacist
Ask which activities are most important to avoid if you feel dizzy, sleepy, or unsteady.
