May cause dizziness
Official label information
In labeled postherpetic neuralgia trials, dizziness occurred in 28% of Neurontin-treated patients versus 8% with placebo and was a common reason for stopping. Epilepsy trials also reported dizziness and ataxia more often than placebo.
Plain-language explanation
Dizziness can mean lightheadedness, spinning, or feeling unsteady, and it can increase fall risk. Getting up slowly and asking for help when needed may be discussed with a clinician.
What this often means for gabapentin products
Dizziness raises fall risk, especially in older adults. Rising slowly may be discussed with a clinician; it is not a substitute for asking whether the product, other sedatives, or dehydration is contributing.
Ask your pharmacist
Ask what symptoms distinguish a common mild effect from one that needs prompt evaluation.
