Med Label Decoder
Plain English for gabapentin pharmacy-label language
This tool explains common label phrases and, where we can, pairs them with official gabapentin labeling. It does not diagnose, set a personal dose, or replace pharmacist counseling.
May cause drowsiness
This warns that sleepiness, slowed reactions, or feeling less alert can occur. The effect may be more noticeable when treatment changes or when other sedating substances are involved.
Do not drink alcohol
Alcohol can add to sleepiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination from medicines that affect the nervous system. A label warning is intended to reduce the risk of falls, accidents, or dangerous oversedation.
Avoid driving until you know how this affects you
The label is warning that alertness, vision, balance, or reaction time may be affected before you know your response. Tasks involving vehicles, machinery, heights, or heat can become unsafe.
May cause dizziness
Dizziness can mean lightheadedness, spinning, or feeling unsteady, and it can increase fall risk. Getting up slowly and asking for help when needed may be discussed with a clinician.
Use caution with other medicines that cause sleepiness
Several medicines or substances can combine to increase sedation, dizziness, slowed breathing, or falls. This includes some sleep aids, anxiety medicines, pain medicines, and allergy products.
May affect balance or coordination
The medicine may make walking, standing, or fine movements less steady. Risk may be higher with alcohol, sedating medicines, illness, or a history of falls.
Use caution when rising from sitting or lying down
Changing position can sometimes bring on lightheadedness or unsteadiness. The phrase is a reminder to pause and make sure you feel stable before walking.
May cause blurred or double vision
This warns that visual clarity can be affected and could make driving or other tasks unsafe. New visual symptoms can also have causes unrelated to medicine.
Seek help for breathing problems or extreme sleepiness
Breathing difficulty or inability to stay awake can be a serious sign, especially when medicines or substances that slow the central nervous system are combined. This is an urgent safety warning.
